The Wood Frog, Rana sylvatica, exist from Alaska, through Canada, and down through the eastern United States.
The Wood Frog has an amazing ability to withstand freezing temperatures. They can even survive having their blood, and body tissues frozen.
Wood Frogs reach a size of a little less than 3 inches as adults. They occur in a range of brown colors, and in most cases have a darker colored eye mask.

If you have ever heard the call of an adult Bullfrog, you won't mistake it for any other frog in the U.S. It is very deep, and sometimes fairly loud. Bullfrogs are fairly large in size, compared to other American frogs. They can reach about 8 inches in length, and can be well over a pound in weight. Being green in color, with brownish spots, they blend in well with their natural habitat. They are not particular about what they eat, and will eat just about anything they can get in their mouths. They have even been known to eat small snakes. There range extends throughout the US, as far south as Mexico, and as far north as Canada.

African Clawed Frog, Xenopus laevis

African clawed frogs, Xenopus laevis, are not very picky eaters, and will even consume non living items. They have been know to eat small, or chopped up earth worms, brine shrimp, or even things like chicken liver, or untreated ham. Probably one of the best foods for the pet keeper is a freeze dried food meant for Amphibians.

There is a dwarf type African Clawed Frog, but the bigger type gets to about 4 or 5 inches at adulthood. With good care, their life span in captivity could go between 15 and 20 years.

The Colorado River Toad, Bufo alvarius, is also known as the Sonoran Desert Toad. They will eat about any small insect, reptile, or rodent they can catch.
The natural range of the Colorado River Toad, is Southwest United States, and Northwest, Mexico.

This toad is on the endangered list of California, making possession there illegal. This toad produces a defensive excretion from glands in it's skin, that is considered a controlled substance in the US, because of it's hallucinogenic affects when smoked.

The Southern Cricket Frog, Acris gryllus, is a very small frog, native to the Southeastern United States. They are very similar in appearance to the Northern Cricket Frog, and frequent the same types of habitats.
They reach a size of about 1 inch as adults, with some larger specimens going over 1 inch. The Southern Cricket Frogs seem to be better jumpers than their Northern cousins.

Fowler’s Toads, Bufo woodhousii fowleri, reach a size of about 3 inches as adults. They come in shades of brown and gray. The belly area of the Fowler’s Toad, is usually unmarked. This feature aids in distinguishing them from the American Toad.

The Southern Toad Bufo terrestris, when compared to other US toads, is medium sized. As adults, they reach a size of about 3 inches. They have a distinguishing feature that helps to identify them. They have knobs between their eyes, called cranial crests. In younger toads, these crests are not as well developed. They vary in color, from shades of brick red, browns, and grays.

Oak Toad, Bufo quercicus

The Oak Toad, Bufo quercicus, is the smallest toad native to the United States. As adults, they reach a maximum size of less than 1 ½ inches. The Oak Toad is native to the Southeastern United States. Being smaller in size makes identifying the Oak Toad easier than other species. Another feature used to help identify them is the stripe that runs down the center of their back. The stripe can be yellow, white, or beige, with some even being more orange.

American Toad, Bufo Americanus

The American Toad, Bufo americanus, reaches about 3 ½ inches in adulthood. This species of toad can usually be found in areas that provide access to dense vegetation, that provides a refuge from the heat during the day, and insects to eat. They will sometimes scoot under stones or boards, or other items during the heat of the day. American Toads will eat just about any insect they can catch, and fit in their mouths. For that reason, they are welcome guests in many backyards.

White’s Tree frog.....Litoria caerulea, are a common frog in the pet trade. They are sometimes call Dumpy Tree Frogs. This frog is native to Australia, and New Guinea, with adults being 3 or 4 inches long. In the wild, they eat a variety of insects, but in captivity, are fed mostly crickets. This frog reaches sexual maturity in 2 years, and can lay a couple hundred eggs at a time.

These frogs are liking eating machines, able to eat almost anything that will fit into their huge mouths. Sometimes they eat things that appear too large for them to eat. Some owners even feed them rodents. It is recommended that they be kept alone, otherwise you risk one frog becoming the meal of another.
